Protect what matters.
SOLLA-accredited advice on care fees, asset protection and estate planning - so you and your family can decide with confidence.
Peace of mind isn't just a feeling, it's a future you can shape
In a world of uncertainty, there is comfort in knowing that your later years, or those of a loved one, are planned with care, clarity and compassion.
Nick Hutchings is an Accredited SOLLA (Society of Later Life Advisers) adviser, which means he can help with all later-life financial matters, including retirement planning and care fees planning. Nick chose to complete the accreditation after his own experience helping his mother plan care fees for his grandmother, so he understands the complexity, emotional hardship and responsibility that come with this challenge.
People in the UK are living longer than ever, often into their 80s, 90s and beyond, which means retirement can last 20-30 years or more. Without proper planning, a longer life can bring financial strain, care challenges and emotional stress for individuals and their families.
Working with Nick at rockwealth Reading, you and your family can plan ahead, secure income that lasts, make informed care decisions before they become urgent, and protect your assets and legacy. If you're also thinking about your own retirement income and timing, see our retirement planning service.
Nick Hutchings hosts the Retirement Lounge, with episodes on retirement and care fees planning.

The financial reality
Rising care costs make planning essential
Proper care fees planning addresses one of the most significant financial challenges in later life: the rising cost of care. Inflation, especially in the care sector, means costs typically rise each year, putting pressure on retirement funds that may not grow at the same rate.
Without strategic planning, individuals risk depleting their savings too quickly, leaving limited options for future care or placing a financial burden on family members. What feels like a secure fund today may fall short when care is needed 10, 15 or 20 years down the line.
We address this by forecasting future costs, identifying sustainable ways to fund care, and incorporating inflation into long-term financial strategies - so you can afford quality care for as long as needed while protecting your assets and financial dignity.
Often involves working with family members who have Power of Attorney
Frequently asked questions
Can you show me what care fees would do to our finances?
Yes. We build a full-scale projection of your financial future and model the effect of paying care fees for a period of time, showing the impact on your remaining wealth. This is presented as a chart, so it's easy to see and to adapt your plan around these costs.
How do your fees compare to a typical care fees annuity adviser?
Many advisers are paid a percentage of the purchase price of a care fees annuity, often around 3%. To remove that conflict of interest, we charge a pre-agreed fixed fee for our advice and recommendations, irrespective of the cost of the annuity or product involved.
Do you work with attorneys or those holding Power of Attorney?
Yes, we regularly work with attorneys, especially when it comes to care fees planning on behalf of a loved one who can no longer make these decisions themselves.
What does later-life planning actually cover?
It brings together financial longevity planning, care funding solutions, asset protection strategies and estate and legacy planning, so decisions about care, income and inheritance are made together rather than in isolation.
How is this different from retirement planning?
Retirement planning focuses on the income and decisions around stopping work. Later-life planning goes further, addressing care needs, Power of Attorney, and protecting assets and legacy in later years. Many clients benefit from both - see our retirement planning service.
